The Great Commission
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Samuel Lim Jeng Xian's testimony

Samuel has finally found some time to write about his experience. Though short, it is straight to the point. Thanking God and giving Him all the glory for saving his life. Hallelujah.

"It was no accident that I fainted at school and threw up blood for no reason.
Before that incident, I was a normal boy but all changed…I was different in a way. I was made special, I have visions of a man named Jesus Christ of Nazareth and I thank the Lord for everything He did in my life and the ones who prayed for me. I am really grateful. Even though the doctor has lost hope, even though I was in I.C.U., the pastors, church members, cell members and all around the world continued to pray for me. I thank you all…
Even though I nearly died, the church didn’t lose hope and I was in pain…they prayed for me and I was healed, I really was touched and I didn’t cry.
Thank you everyone and I will pray for each and everyone."

Frank & C.H. Are Right : Alcohol is GOOD FOR YOU

Mediterranean diet: Importance of individual components

The Mediterranean diet is associated with lower overall mortality, but the relative importance of the various components of the diet is unknown. A study in Greece has provided some pointers.
The study included 23,349 men and women. After an average follow-up of 8.5 years, mortality was 652/12,694 among people with a Mediterranean diet score of 0–4 and 423/10,655 among people with a score of 5 or more. After controlling for confounders, the Mediterranean diet was associated with a significant reduction in mortality of 14% per 2-unit increase in score. Moderate consumption of alcohol contributed 23.5% to this reduction; low consumption of meat and meat products, 16.6%; high consumption of vegetables, 16.2%; high consumption of fruit and nuts, 11.2%; high monounsaturated: saturated fat ratio, 10.6%; and high consumption of legumes, 9.7%. High intake of fish and seafood was associated with a non-significant increase in mortality. High consumption of cereals and low con sumption of dairy products had little effect.
The most protective components of the Mediterranean diet are moderate alcohol intake, low intake of meat and meat products, and high intakes of vegetables, fruits, nuts, olive oil and legumes.

Response to New Life Forum

PCG members:- Surely we are not a NATO cell group, are we? Surely, there will be some views from you of the church which you have been keeping close to your chest? Not to worry, now you may visit http://newlifeforum.blogspot.com and contribute your views.

For your information, our beloved Doc had put in a lot of effort to create the abovementioned blog with a view of extending/linking to the rest of the church members. So, let us support this noble action by contributing and remember, positive comments and suggested solutions, if any. If we are not active, how can we expect the others to contribute? GB.

To give glory to God

To those who have any testimonies, please do write and blog them so that all the glory goes to Him.

Recently, Our Almighty God has healed and restored Bro Wilson's vision and has caused Bro David to stop puffing. These are two fine examples which both Bro Wilson and Bro David can blog their experiences so that their testimonies will not only glorify God but will also encourage others (especially to those who read this blog). Hallelujah.

So, over to all you Brothers and Sisters. GB

Great worship, Great Sharing, Great Fellowship, Great Fei loship

With our regular professional PCG photographers namely Doc Liu and Bro CH not around on Friday Fellowship, no photos were taken during our Pot Bless Fellowship Cum Matt Party. Everyone were so engross with worship, sharing and "fellowshiping" with the guests, we forgot to take some pictures for the blog.

But anyway, you will have to imagine the variety of dishes we had after our unit leader Ps. SS Loh finished sharing, where we continued our fellowship at the dinning table filled a fusion of western, chinese and japanese dishes.

Bro David invited Mr.Lollipop The Clown & his lovely wife, Evelyn and two sons (remember him ? He came for our charity blowing competition with his clown costume) and on my side, invited a couple friend, well, supposed to be Casey's friend, Jess and her hubby, Ken, who is a chef (who made the teriyaki chicken dish...hmm, can still remember the taste of the tender, juicy, chicken marinated with teriyaki sauce).

We literally "gasak" all the food before we adjourned to have more fellowship with our guests. Bro Wilson, our "Siow" leader for 2010 as usual prepared some balloons for Mr. Lollipop to make some cute balloon shapes for the children. Imagine the excitement from the children having heart shaped and sword like balloons, running here and there.

On the other end, the more matured "fellowshipping" chatting away on, yes, our favourite topic - Food and with Ken, the chef who just came back from Japan after two years stint as a head chef for an international hotel chain, gladly add in more "flavours" into topic.

All in all, a truly blessed time. Looking forward to another Matt's Party sometime soon and hope to see more new friends/ guests to join in.

Happy Birthday Pr Loh

Get Along
1Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.
"Living in harmony" here is literally "being of the same mind". Living in harmony is largely a function of practicing humility. Humility is prerequisite to being sympathetic and compassionate as such requires one to see things from someone else's perspective. Even concerning arguments, if one side has demonstrated that they have seriously considered the other person's point of view, though disagree with it, that goes a long way to settling differences. Compassion also invokes good works. Those without compassion are often at a loss as to what good works to do. Such people require some kind of personal incentive to do good. But a compassionate person does good from the heart. Note the example of the good Samaritan of Luke 10:30-37 "But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion." Like Jesus "when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd." Mt 9:36 Compassion also invokes forgiveness, "Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt." Mt 18:27 Developing compassion may require we go through similar experiences. Even of Jesus it was said, "Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted." Heb 2:18 Thus living in harmony is not simply agreeing to a doctrinal statement. It involves an attitude of love and humanity.

Tithing

Since I had facilitated last Friday's CG lesson (Chapter 4) and having read Pastor Ron's Message to the Leaders (via Bro Frank's email), I am convicted to post Pastor Ron's summary which is as follows:-

Tithing before the law with Abraham and Jacob was VOLUNTARY.

Tithing under the law of Moses was COMPULSORY.

Tithing under grace was, and is, WILLINGLY. However, we are depriving ourselves from receiving God’s blessings when we fail to tithe in obedience.

Have a blessed week and remember to give generously, regularly and faithfully. "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain". GB

PCG in the mission field again !

Yesterday 4 adik beradik, led by none other than our beloved kapitan, Frank n Jo, drove down to Taiping to pray for my mum. Mum, 89 yrs young, was robbed of her joy by a fall that kept her bedridden for 5 wks. Morale was at its ebb as pain, immobility and fear of tomorrow gripped her. The complexities of her medical/physical state posed a great challenge to all drs/specialist.
" LC's " jokes lifted up her mood, like that of a child enjoying a McD's party ! Jo tuned her radar, went on search and destroy mode against spiritual enemies. The BOSS prayed for healing & blessings. Finally victory was in hand when mum said the sinner's prayer. Everything was kau tim, PTL. All glory to God, and kudos to Frank, Jo, "LC" , Eve and not forgetting my strong pillar, doc ! Last but not least, to all other members who have been upholding mum this season, thanks. Please continue to uphold her as there's no one to minister to her back home. Mum expressed thanks to all who prayed for her, and to Carin n Mun, mum was touched by your gift of love, even tho you could not make it last min. Even though my adik beradik looked tired this morning, but the joy of the Lord exudes from their faces! TQ TQ n TQ.
Guys, whoever has forgotten who's "LC", will have to facilitate the next chapter of Cash Values !!!!

Psalm 107

Psalm 107

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
his love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say this ~
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from the east and west, from the north
and south.

Some wandered in desert wastelands,
finding no way to a city where they could settle.
They were hungry and thirsty,
and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way
to a city where they could settle,
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for men,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.

Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom,
prisoners suffering in iron chains,
for they had rebelled against the words of the God
and despised the counsel of the Most High.
So he subjected them to bitter labour,
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom
and broke away their chains.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for men,
for he breaks down the gates of bronze
and cuts through bars of iron.

Some became fools through their rebellious ways
and suffered affliction because of their iniquities
They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
He sent forth his word and healed them;
he rescued them from the grave.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for men.
Let them sacrifice thanks offerings
and tell of his works with songs of joy

Others went out on the sea in ships,
they were merchants on the mighty waters
They saw the works of the Lord,
his wonderful deeds in the deep.
For he spoke and stirred up a tempest
that lifted high waves.
They mounted up to the heavens
and went down to the depths;
in their peril their courage melted away.
They reeled and staggered like drunken men;
they were at their wits' end.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought then out of their distress.
He stilled the storm to a whisper,
the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love,
and his wonderful deeds for men.
Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the counsel of the elders.

He turns rivers into a desert,
flowing springs into thirsty ground,
and fruitful land into salt waste
because wickedness of those who lived there.
He turned the desert into pools of water
and the parched ground into flowing springs,
there he brought the hungry to live,
and they founded a city where they could settle.
They sowed fields and planted vineyards
that yielded a fruitful harvest,
he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,
and he did not let their herds diminish.

Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled
by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
he who pours contempt on nobles
made them wander in a trackless waste
But he lifted the needy out of their affliction
and increase their families like flocks.
The upright see and rejoice,
but all the wicked shut their mouths.

Whoever is wise, let him heed these things
and consider the great love of the Lord.

Sis Vivienne's Testimony on Samuel Lim Jeng Xian

Testimony of Samuel Lim Jeng Xian – MIRACLE BOY
=================================================================================

When Jeng Xian fainted at school, Frank & Jo felt the need to send their son for medical tests and through the tests he was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia - low blood count below any normal blood count and the bone marrow was not actively producing white and red blood platelet. During that period he was admitted for observation at SJMC and subsequently was administered with serum recommended by his doctor (Dr Lin). We remembered when we visited him at the hospital it was his first night for the treatment & observation, Ps Loh & I recalled Jeng Xian was normal energetic, playful, full of life & was cheerful in spirit. The second night after the serum treatment was administered the lively atmosphere was no longer felt but all we could see was lifelessness in the boy that overcome by pain he had to endured would just break our hearts. It was the beginning of the trauma. We could only pray in the Mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ commanding the pain to leave and seek the Lord to heal him completely. When he was discharged, nightly we were at their home to pray for him and throughout those nights and days he was complaining of bad headache experience that flow from the treatment and medication. You could see the discomfort he had to go through during the time he was in and out of the hospital due to other infections. The doctor who prescribed horse serum recommended rabbit serum because the horse serum was not sufficiently effective to normalise the condition. Helplessly, Frank and Jo went along with the doctor’s recommendation and advice in hope to see their son’s recovery. Particularly in one evening when we went to the hospital knowing that he was re-admitted, it was unusually uncomfortable and sensed he was in a state of semi-unconsciousness despite his sister and brothers calling on to him there was no responses from him we knew something was wrong with his condition although the nurses whom attended to him didn’t realised if there was anything wrong with him. We asked Jo where is Frank? She mentioned that he would be here soon and just that minute Frank walked in and immediately attended to check on Jeng Xian. He too realised something was amissed and immediately demanded a CT scan to be conducted on his son. The scan on his brain revealed the virus had invaded his brain resulted in a stroke which affected his right brain.

Those were trying months for the Lim's family. Prayers from friends, cell members, pastors, church members, intercessors were mobilized and support was extended from the church. He was laid in the ICU for a month and throughout that time prayers were held at the hospital corners and waiting rooms. As leaders and friends to the family, the bible mentioned if one part of the body suffers the rest of the body also suffers with them. But we saw the Lord’s miracle at work in Jeng Xian’s life how the Lord brought him back from almost close to death. The doctor‘s negative pronouncement were cast out in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and daily visitation were prayers of decreeing “LIFE” over Jeng Xian. When he was finally transferred from ICU to a normal ward we praise and thank God for His miracle touch over this precious life. Through the prayers of the saints from the Pastors, church members, intercessors, outreach churches of New Life the unity of believers has brought forth miracle healing process over Jeng Xian now is called Samuel (How he got his name will be left to his dad to share). All glory to the Lord. It was one hurdle after another. When he was finally home with his family his left side was semi-paralyzed. It was such a frustrating time for a young 12 years old boy who was unable to move part of his body. Being in such a state especially the child who loved sport like football (fan of Manchester United) could not move part of his body was indeed very devastating. As usual daily prayer was the only hope. Many of us have done our part to encourage the young lad. Hospital has assigned a physiotherapist to visit him every other day, and help from church member’s dad who goes daily to help him with the Chinese therapy. We could see some signs of improvement physically but his bone-marrow was then not functioning normal even after undergone the horse & rabbit serum therapy. The Lord was good and brought an angel to help the family. During the period when he was still in ICU God sent an angel in amidst of crisis, a Muslim doctor who in a way have contributed to Samuel‘s recovery. (Leave the part to Frank and Jo to continue from there). Like we mentioned it was hurdle after hurdle and at one time the boy was plagued with evil spirit which we believed may have entered his body when he was in coma. Frustration was one of the contributing opening whereby the spirit uses him to give us all a hard time and deliverance was conducted in a short period of two weeks but found no headway. Only through the Wisdom of God that was given, only his Dad (Frank) the headship over his household, a believer has the authority over the spirit of lies, deception and lust that came over his child. From thereon Frank uses the authority in the mighty name of Jesus we believed drove out the demons and the work of darkness could no longer operate or manifest itself in the child and left. To us our faith has risen to another level to know our Lord reign through all circumstances. It had been a challenging time but in His NAME – the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST the sick are healed, demons are cast out, mute speak and blind eyes see and the dead are raise to life. We have witness the works of GOD’S MIRACLE and Samuel Lim Jeng Xian is a display of His sovereign MIRACLE. PRAISE THE LORD. Today he’s back on his feet doing almost any normal activity a child would love doing And he has grown into a fine young man tall handsomely built like his brothers.

Letter from Brian (Australia)

Brian has just written to me and the following is an Extract from his latest mail dated 16 October 2009:-

"With the grace of God, family is fine. Joyce flew off late Wednesday and I just received an email from the church that they have landed safely y'day and they have water and electricity at the moment. Hallelujah; don't we take for granted with simple things like this. I am suppose to fly on 31.10.09 but I have not apply for my visa nor book my flight. Anyway will be having my vaccination & going to the Indian Consulate on Monday. No stress.

If all goes well I will be in New Delhi from 1.11 - 22.12. When you see Frank let him know his vision comes true because in one of our cell meeting he said he, Choong, Carin and some others in India. Well, I will be there, so the others can start packing for their calling."

So Brothers and Sisters in Christ, get ready to fly off to India lah..........Hallelujah, Praise the Lord. GB.

Denominations - What's The Purpose Of It?

As Casey was browsing through the web, stumbled upon this blog and was reading some of the comments made by the readers. I managed to browse through one or two and I did not even want to read further.

I wonder if we as "Children of God" really understand the meaning of it. Here we are supposedly spread the Good News/ Gospel which is commanded by Jesus, we are bickering among ourselves about denominations - Catholics, Baptist, Methodist ....

The thing is...does it make any difference? If I am a Baptist, Methodist, Protestant or a Catholic...does it make me holier if I am any of the above denomination?

The truth is, we are all the same - "SINNERS" and without Jesus, we are sinners without any hope of salvation.  I really praise God for missionaries like Guy Peh, Thomas Cheng, Bernard Hull and others to teach, to spread and to preach the true goodness of God The Father, God The Son, God The Holy Spirit so that we are reminded who we are and what we stand for.

http://www.petertan.com/blog/2005/07/26/you-do-not-worship-jesus/

Mr. Peter Tan I understand your frustration but your post just made things worse and I suggest those "holier than thou" so called Christians to go back and be more spirit filled before they want to even pray for someone. Just because he is a "Catholic" you think he does not deserved to be prayed for?  Anyway, the blog on that topic is a good example of "flesh" pretending to be "Spirit". The brother who said such things to Mr. Peter Tan, well, I have to say brother,  you just gave the devil another gateway to create more confusion, thank you very much.

Dear bros n sis,
Must thank all of you for upholding my mum. Really appreciate it. The
X-ray showed that the spinal vertebrae was affected, meaning that the
fall caused compression on the nerve. She is now on medication but
because of her age, healing will not be be so fast. But nevertheless,
we'll trust our good Lord to speedily heal her. Thanks again. Actually
I meant to put on the blog, but due to my age, I've forgotten how to

TESTIMONY ON SAMUEL FROM WILSON & MAE CHUA

It was on 18 February 2008 when Jeng Xian was hospitalized due to vomiting of blood. We were taken by surprise when we were informed about it but nevertheless, the whole cell group started to pray and to uphold Samuel in prayer. We never realized that Samuel’s condition was so serious until we were told that he is diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. Our hearts felt so heavy, not knowing what this sickness is all about even as we tried to gather more information through some websites. All we knew is that only GOD can turn things around – we were calling for God’s grace and mercy to be upon Samuel as he is so dear to us.

When Samuel was lying in a coma in ICU, after the first treatment (of horse’s serum) failed, our hearts was pierced in pain. But we thank God that He is so graceful and merciful to us – during Mae’s quiet time with the Lord, she was shown Psalm 23 – this was the same Psalm 23 that the Lord revealed to Mae when one of our good friend went into a coma after a car accident and suffered head injury. Our friend was in a coma for 4 days until God showed Mae Psalm 23. Praise the Lord, our friend woke up the next day and now she is completely healed by the Lord.

Together with Psalm 23, the Lord also gave Mae this statement – He will rise up! These words were so encouraging! It saddened us to see Samuel in such condition but the Lord wants to show us that He is a Miracle Healing God! Even when the attending doctor pronounced that he had done all he could for Samuel, our Lord who is so merciful and faithful never gave up – because NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE for HIM and He love Samuel so much. HE IS OUR HEALER IN TIMES OF SICKNESS AND HE HEALED SAMUEL!

Seeing all the members of the cell group as well as church members unite in one accord to uphold and pray for Samuel, we knew that God is with Samuel all the time. Our emotions was volatile with all the changes happening to Samuel but many a times, we are able to seek God’s peace – knowing that He will surely heal Samuel. His healing process was not an easy journey but we know God’s grace and mercy is upon Samuel throughout the journey.

Now Samuel is completely healed – ALL GLORY TO OUR ALMIGHTY GOD!

Alvin & Casey's Testimony On Samuel

Coming from a person of very few words, writing this testimony about Xian's (Samuel) would be rather challenging but I hope it will equally be a blessing to those who will be reading it along with the rest of the inspiring testimonies by other cell members. I won’t be touching much on Samuel’s months of agonizing experience as Bro CH and mostly all the PCG members has already narrated the entire detail of what had happened. We can actually make an epic movie on it if we have a good script writer and film director…hmm, maybe Bro JS can help? (side track a bit here) or maybe we can use this to create a course outline for cell group lesson series titled “ The Power Of Faith & Prayer Chains via SMS” and push it back out to other countries like USA, the only difference is that this cell group lesson series quite “powderful” because its real. How? Good idea ah?

Ok, coming back to this testimonial… Hmm, I believe for a 12 year old having to go through such painful ordeal is no small feat even for adults like us. I remember Bro Wilson sharing his painful experience (similar to Samuel’s) of his “lumbar Poncik” as he like to put it (sounds like Ayam Percik, a malay styled bbq roasted chicken delicacy which is marinated and skewed with a bamboo stick) similar to the Ayam Percik, he had to curl up like a shrimp, so that the doctor can insert the needle into the bone.

It’s like my experience donating blood pallets few months back, only it’s 100 times more painful when they insert the thick needle in. The “fun” part comes in where i desperately desire, at that point of time, if God could give me elephant skin just for 10 minutes or so especially when the nurse has to poke a few times before she gets it right (oklah, it's only two times but still...more than once mah). Adding more salt & pepper to my already bruised ego for trying to act tough but inside like a mouse, She gave me a quirky smile and ask “Here so cold, why you sweat ah? You feel pain ah? “)

I, for one, will be the 1st to admit that I will freak out having to go through such ordeal. I remember there was even one time that the doctors gave Samuel the WRONG serum which resulted to more heart aches for Bro Frank and Sis Jo.

As I begin to recall back Samuel’s miraculous journey to recovery, I firmly believe it has everything to do with God’s divine purpose. Last night (13/09/09) as I was reading Sis Carin’s testimony where she mentioned about not understanding why God allow such things to happen, reminded me that His way is beyond our human logic. I was not sure if God was speaking to me that night but by faith I believe He did as I was doing my short quiet time, which I have to repent for not doing so for quite a while, I was somehow lead to Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”.

Before Samuel was hospitalized for Aplastic Anemia, Casey had just accepted Christ and me, coming out from spiritual dryness. Both of us are new to the cell group but yet we can feel an unexplainable family like bonding within the group especially when the cell members instantly mobilized themselves, sending smses, organizing prayer chains & fasting. For me after years of quenching the spirit man, Samuel’s suffering and his miraculous journey to recovery was God’s way of telling me “Hey, I am still here hor and have always be here, even ar if you took a detour from the Race I had prepared for you but it’s time to get back on track lor” (yes, God can speak manglish too). If you are reading this and sense that God is somehow telling you the same thing, you better listen. 10 over years of wilderness is no fun, trust me.

As for how God has touched Casey throughout the whole epic, I will have to leave it to her to share but in my own personal opinion, God really showed Casey how real He is during those testing period and to make known to her that she can depend on Him in all things. Looking back at all the roller coaster ride of emotions, from the late nights of visiting Samuel and mamak sessions opposite the Hospital, seeing him improving and re-admitting him again to ICU; if not by God’s grace, I believe Bro Frank, Sis Jo, Mei, JC and Han would have been mentally, spiritually and physically burned out. But yet, by faith they believe Samuel will truly be healed. Support from PCG members, Pastors, Church members and friends were tremendous. And frankly speaking, being a Christian for 10 years (or more?) I have not prayed so much in my life. Was it my effort? I don’t think so - God at work? If you ask me, of course 100% yes and Amen.

SAMUEL LIM JENG XIAN - PENGABULAN DOA

Pengabulan Doa.

Renungan : Lukas 11

"Terima kasih Yesus!"

"Saat susah , cari Tuhan,
Saat tenang , beribadah kepada Tuhan,
Saat duka , percaya Tuhan,
Setiap saat , puji Tuhan."

NLRC Family Day

Dear cell leaders

Thank you for the supports you and your cell have shown over the year. After an exciting Sport Month. We are looking forward for some inter-cell activities through our Family Day ’09. Encourage your cell members to participate and get to know each other in this family of God.

What do you need to do?
1.       Announce this event in Cell Group this Fri.
2.       Hand out or email to them this registration form.
3.       Encourage them to sign up for a great time!

Thanks
Hock

From: Francis FOO (fkf@tm.net.my)

Hi, Pastor Hock,

Can you please request the CLs to print and distribute the forms (one form for each family) to their cell members at this Friday's cell meetings, and request the cell members to complete and return the forms immediately to the CLs, who can then pass them to you this Sunday. Their early registration will help the Committee in budgeting for food catering, prizes, logistcis planning, etc.

Pastor Hock, can you also print copies of the Registration Form and Taman Rimba Kiara location map (with a note advising church members to car-pool, due to limited parking space), as inserts for our church bulletin this Sunday.

Thanks for your help.

God bless,
Francis FOO

Amelia's Testimony on Samuel & Family

It is an undeniable fact, across countries, cultures and customs, that parents suffer excruciatingly when their child falls ill – more so when the child wavers between life and death. The total loss of control fuelled with an agony so terrorising raptures them into a nightmare they can never wake up from, into a state where giving up their lives for the sake of the child becomes not an option, but an offer.

Frank and Jo Lim is no stranger to the fear factor scenario – in fact it is wonderful to see them who were once paralyzed with fear, now standing tall, strong, with grateful hands lifted to the heavens, profusely thanking the Giver of Life for the life that was restored once again to Xian.

I clearly remember the agonizing period the whole family had to endure the day in and day out of the hospital. In spite of Frank’s own weakened state of health, he never came first in the picture. His only purpose was to see that Xian got better – that’s it. Deteriorating was NOT an option he would accept. No, not in his lifetime. His black crowning glory slowly showed streaks of grey and his waistline slowly shrinking. Those were obvious signs of a distressed parent. Wouldn’t we? Yes, they were helpless – but never hopeless.

Still, faith of the united family grew only from strength to strength. Their prayer fiery with passion, that God would intervene, that God would heal, that God would be faithful. The support and love was firm, unwavering. And soon, their prayers of plead became one of thanks – Xian was recovering. His body stronger, his skin pink, his eyes finally opened.

Carin's Testimony on Samuel

When my husband and I were invited to join Paul Cell Group in 2007 and first introduced to the Cell Group’s leader - Frank Lim and his wife, Josephine - I felt most comfortable with Frank’s way of putting people at ease. You get the feeling that you have known the couple for ages rather than just mere acquaintances.

After knowing the couple, you will also not missed not knowing the rest of the family – 3 tall, good-looking boys together with the only girl in the family (sings beautifully and with looks to match her voice too). Just as in my own family of 3 girls, the baby of the family is always the youngest child, who is always seen tagging along with the parents (with the mother at least!). Most of the time whenever we meet up with the group - being the youngest, Samuel will not be too far away – we tend to miss him if we do not see him around.

When we were first informed that Samuel was not well, our immediate reaction was not of grave concern as we were not fully aware of his actual condition and diagnosis of his illness. It was later along with the sharing and interaction amongst the group members that I realized how ill Samuel was.

I remembered my 1st visit to the hospital when Samuel was hospitalized – it was after visiting hours and I was not allowed to go up to the ward by the hospital security. I was at the lounge area, waiting for the rest of the group to come down, after which, we adjourned for supper nearby. What struck me most then was the behavioral manner in which Frank and Jo carried themselves – they were positive, full of trust and casting the whole burden of Samuel’s illness unto the Lord. They were physically very tired (due to lack of sleep) but I could feel the positive vibes radiating from both of them – how do you explain this kind of strength unless you are truly confident that there is a much greater force within that you could unburden your heavy emotional load and lift you up when everything else seems to fail?

What touched me immensely was the time when I was visiting Samuel (who was asleep) and found myself alone with Jo in the hospital room – knowing how much she has in her mind over Samuel’s condition, she still managed to talk to me about the greatness of God (me being a new believer at that time) and that she will pray for my children, especially for my eldest daughter who is studying abroad. She even got me to write down their names so that she can pray specifically for each one of them! I was truly humbled by her thoughtfulness especially during this trying time over Samuel.

Throughout the period of Samuel’s illness, his recovery, his relapses and his subsequent recovery – I may not understand why God allow this to happen or the reasons for such happenings, but I could feel the genuine love and concern of everyone who knew Samuel, Frank & Jo; the chain prayers throughout for Samuel’s healing and the constant involvement of the church and the pastors.

I came across the title of a Bible session entitled – In the Worst of times is the Best of times (looking at the Book of Ruth) - and it struck me that this is exactly why God permits unpleasant or negative events to happen in our lives. I began to reflect on Samuel, Frank and Jo and the trusting relationship they have with the Lord. I believed it is because of this trust and their unfailing belief that God will guide them and their family through this period of trial; that the Lord will uphold each one of them and should anyone stumbles, He will be there extending His Hand to pull him up to be close to HIM.

This is what I have learned from Samuel’s experiences and I pray that I too am able to sustain the worst of times to entrust all my worries and cares unto the Lord.

It is truly that God is the Great Physician and that His Love does not keep us from trials; it helps us get through them!

Testimony on Samuel

It was two weeks after Chinese New Year 2008 and our Bandung trip with Samuel & family that the devil struck and caused Samuel to be hospitalised.
Samuel and his brothers were the first to board the aircraft as there was no reservation of seats of our Air Asia trip to Bandung, then. He was okay during the trip and had lots of fun there, food and shopping. There was an occasion that Samuel had run back and forth to help me to retrieve the golf balls at the practice green. As I am a total stranger to golf, I was using Samuel’s golf clubs lofting the balls, uncontrollably much beyond the targeted spot. Poor Samuel had to endure my amateurish skills and must have silently shared my first disastrous and embarrassing golf swings with his brothers. Even on our flight back to KL, Samuel cheerfully ate his food on board and even took his packet of food sticks with some chocolate/colourful dip.
On the same day when the news came that Samuel was hospitalised in SJMC, my wife, Evelyn and I went and visited him in the evening. He was sitting cross legged on his bed chatting with us. We joked with him that he could watch his favourite football team, Manchester United on TV, which was hung from the ceiling facing the hospital bed. At the same time, Samuel was also busy with his computer games on his hand held toy/gadget. Together with Bro Frank and Sis Josephine, we mentioned to Samuel that he will be alright and it will be just a few days of observation.
To our dismay, the few days turned out to be many agonizing months, treatment after treatment and at one time it has turned for the worst but thank God, He answers our prayers and Samuel was finally held by the Lord Jesus Christ. All glory to Him.
During observation and after some blood tests were done, Samuel was diagnosed as suffering from lack of blood platelets and there was a need for blood transfusion. Both his brothers, Jeng Chee and Jeng Han donated to replenish the blood bank and Samuel still has to stay back for further observation. However, the count of his blood platelets have still not increased and more blood transfusion was done and there was a time when Sis Jo joked with Samuel that he will be having some of my blood too since I had also donated to the blood bank that afternoon. Despite a few days of blood transfusion, the blood count of Samuel’s was still not improving and instead started to drop. It was then, worry started to creep in.
A few days later, Samuel was diagnosed to be suffering from Aplastic Anemia, a rare disease which is a malfunctioning of the production of red blood cells of the bone marrow. The Specialist Doctor attending to Samuel, Dr Lin and suggested that Samuel’s condition needed some Horse’s serum to be injected into his blood stream to activate the production of the red blood cells.
Though Samuel was on the drip and with bags of blood and saline hanging beside his bed, he was able to chat with visitors and still in his jovial and bubbly self. We shared and joked with Samuel that with the Horse’ serum in his body, he will, in future be able to run as fast as horses. All who were present laughed and no one knew that the treatment had turned out be totally beyond imagination.
His condition started to change after the Horse’s serum was administered into his body. Samuel’s body temperature started to increase and he was complaining of a headache. He started to slam his hands to his head and those around him then comforted him and said that was a normal reaction and would not last long. Samuel too was wriggling in bed and kicked his blankets away from his body, due to the changes of his body temperature. The metal railings beside the hospital bed were pulled up to prevent him from falling over the edge of the bed. He complained of discomfort and back pains. Sis Jo was constantly by his side comforting him. Samuel also complained that he could not see well and had difficulty with his vision and could hardly open his eyes. All the lights in his room were either switched off or lowly dimmed as he said that they were glaring and hurting his eyes.
The next day came and Samuel’s condition was no better and the doctor’s reaction was it would probably take a little longer for the serum to work. There was still more blood transfusion and more medication and despite all the treatments, the blood count has not improved. The serum treatment went on for five days and each day we were around him and prayed for him and yet there was little improvement.
At the end of the 5 Day Serum treatment as recommended by Dr Lin, upon checking with the blood test results, Samuel was discharged from SJMC.
We thought Samuel’s ordeal was all over but two days later, we heard that he was readmitted back to SJMC due to complications. We found out that Samuel was still unwell and still has a nagging headache. At this stage, Samuel was very quiet and did not wish to speak to anyone.
Samuel continued his stay in the hospital and was under observation but his condition continued to deteriorate so badly to a stage when he was not responding to Bro Frank and Sis Jo. Samuel has fallen into a coma.
All of us began to worry over Samuel’s condition.
On the same evening of his readmission, Samuel was wheeled into the ICU and his condition had to be closely monitored by an assigned nurse outside his room. Samuel was all wired up with all sorts of monitoring devices, a tube through his nostril, and a bag for his urine and it was indeed a very pitiful sight. Despite that Sis Jo had the wisdom and plugged in a pair of ear phones to Samuel’s ears playing Praise and Worship songs from a portable CD player.
Praise the Lord, luckily Bro Frank and Sis Jo are blessed with three other grown up children and they are constantly taking turns to help out in watching Samuel on a 24/7 basis.
This section of the hospital was very strict with visitors, allowing a maximum of two persons and for brief visit. Samuel did not respond to me and Evelyn when we visited him at this stage but we continued to pray for him. One of the days, in the ICU ward, Bro AK visited Samuel and with his stern looks , stroke Samuel’s hair and said with a loving voice to the motionless, Samuel…...”The Lord is with you, you will be alright…”
Most of the Paul Cell Group together with Pastor SS Loh and Sis Vivienne have rallied behind Bro Frank and Sis Jo and continuously supported them by visiting them (and Samuel, of course!) nightly. We prayed for healing and continued to encourage them until late hours of the night.
Samuel was still motionless and was not responding but we never gave up praying. Family friends and church members continued to showing their support to the family and Samuel. Our church leaders have announced for prayers for Samuel and the intercessors prayed unceasingly for the Lord’s healing power to bestow upon Samuel.
There was a huge GET WELL card from Samuel’s class sent in with words of encouragement written by his classmates and teachers. Without regaining consciousness, Samuel was not aware of the card but nevertheless, it must have been most encouraging for the family.
A breakthrough came in once faithful day, ……days after Samuel was transferred out from the ICU to the normal wad, Jeng Chee said that Samuel has started move one of his fingers. All of us were so encouraged by the news and when Evelyn and I visited him, Samuel’s eyes were opened but could not speak or move any parts of his body. He could only communicate by blinking of his eyes. His sister, Yoke Mei instructed him to respond to us by the number of blinks of his eyes, once of “a Yes” and twice for “a No.” Hallelujah, we knew that from these signs there is hope and his brain was undamaged, Praise the Lord.
Samuel condition began to gradually improve but there was a need to draw blood from his weak body for tests. Both his arms began to hurt and the Doctors have to perform an operation to place a catheter just below his collar bone to draw blood regularly. The operation went well and the painful needles piercing sessions into Samuel’s arms were avoided.
After a………days, Samuel was discharged from SJMC but he was unable to move his limbs, he was literally confined to his bed. Despite his condition, Bro Frank and family knew that Samuel has to recuperate at home for a speedy recovery.
Samuel was very weak and was confined in bed with curtains of his room drawn most of the times. Each night, Pastor Loh and Sister Vivienne will visit him, pray and anoint him with olive oil. There have been occasions that Samuel uttered some foul words. All of us believed that he was under some kind of spiritual attacks. There were constant prayers for Samuel and the Church and Cell group continued to uphold Samuel in prayers.
Over a week later, Samuel’s condition improved and was able to sit on a wheel chair. His brothers helped him and assisted him around the house. His legs were still weak but he could move with his right hand was able to wheel himself around the house with assistance.
He was constantly encouraged to stand up and finally one day, he managed to stand up with assistance however, all his weight was balanced on his right leg. It was obvious that his sensory system has yet to be fully functional ignoring his left limbs. Samuel could only control with his right hand and right leg. He is gradually returning to his normal self at this stage and it was a real joy to see his recovery since his long periods in the hospital.
Physiotherapy was introduced to Samuel together with Foot massage and slowly but surely, Samuel was able to stand up by himself, limping around the house. At times, he was too eager to move around and fell but was always encouraged by his family members to continue with his progress.
Samuel’s condition continues to improve but there was still the catheter dangling from the outside of his chest. There were suggestions to have it removed but I was told that the Doctors at SJMC had advised against it as they still need to draw blood from Samuel to monitor his platelet’s count.
On the night of 8th August 2008, our Cell group had gathered in my house to witness the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. Not long after we have settled in front of the TV, watching the displays at the Bird’s Nest Stadium, Dr Liu received a call from Frank that Samuel has a fever and was shivering. We stopped watching, prayed and subsequently dismissed our gathering. Dr Liu then arranged for each member for a time slot and carried out immediately a 24 Hour prayer chain. Hallelujah, Praise the Lord, Samuel‘s attack was not serious and he was not adversely affected by the fever.
The fever came and left on several other occasions and one day, it became serious and Samuel was admitted, this time to the University Hospital (UMMC). There were no beds for him but by God’s grace, the staff managed to place him in the Children’s ward. Samuel was under observation for a few days and there was an occasion, Pastor J, Pastor Ron and Pastor Lawrence visited him together early one evening. Pastor J prayed over him and amongst his other prayers, he prayed specifically for the malfunction of bone marrow. I sensed that Samuel is healed.
On 10th September 2008, Samuel’s Catheter was removed in UMMC after a short and successful operation. Praise God, all went well and I took a photo of Samuel without the Catheter after the operation and immediately blogged in that evening. You can see the joy on his face from the photo (http://paulcellgroup.blogspot.com/2008/09/samuels-catheter-removed.html) The main culprit is finally gone and the various bouts of fever was as the result of infection at the catheter and with the removal, Samuel is finally on the road to full recovery.

Bro Frank had also mentioned that Dr Lin, who had earlier written off Samuel said "now I see the power of prayers", after witnesing Samuel's recovery in SJMC

Matthew 19:26- "With God, all things are possible"
